Visiting Dodge Poets and Student Writing
The Dodge Poetry Program does not send Dodge Poets into high schools to run writing workshops or to critique student writing. If teachers are particularly interested in pursuing these activities, we ask that they arrange to do so on other days and with other presenters.
If teachers want to generate student writing after the Mini-Festival, they can easily do so by asking students to respond to something they heard from the visiting poet that mattered to them and/or to use one of the visiting poet's poems as a prompt for a poem of their own. If teachers want a Dodge Poet to give students a prompt and the poet is willing to do so, they should ask her/him to offer the prompt toward the end of the session, with the understanding that class time on another day will be used to share and respond to the work done in response to the prompt.
