Selecting Students and Classes to Participate in a Single-School or Multi-School Mini-Festival

The Dodge Poetry Program does not fund events that serve only the classes of one or two teachers. We ask teachers to consider together the whole range of students within their school who might benefit from meeting and talking with participating Dodge Poets.

The most obvious choices - AP English classes, literary magazine staff, or creative writing club members - may not necessarily include all the students who could gain most from such an encounter. Think, for example, of those with interests outside the mainstream of the larger school population. Think also of the unaffiliated and of those who seem to have no interests at all. Many among these last groups might qualify as those one teacher has described as "most in need of the salvation of poetry."
