Dodge Poet Visits

How Dodge Poet Visits Work:

Since its inception in 1986, the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Program has sent visiting Dodge Poets into more tha 300 New Jersey high schools, in every region of the state, to work with nearly 100,000 students and 5,000 teachers.Dodge Poet Valerie Martínez during a visit to Glassboro High School.

The Poetry Program offers single-day Dodge Poet Visits to New Jersey High Schools, at no cost to participating schools.

Dodge Poets are regional poets prepared to help both students and teachers befriend poetry. Simply by walking into the classroom and sharing their lives and their love of poetry, Dodge Poets accomplish something essential: they remind us that living, breathing practitioners of this art are in our midst.

Poet Visits are most successful when several teachers work together to plan the day, designating one among them as their school’s Contact Teacher, who will act as the chief liaison with the Dodge Poetry Program and who will accept primary responsibility for Arranging a Dodge Poet Visit.
