Programming the Day of both Single-school and Multi-school Mini-festivals
Programming the Day of both Single-school and Multi-school Mini-festivals:
In the course of the day, Dodge Poets working with students can be asked to do three 40-50 minute sessions (or two block periods of approximately 90 minutes each) and, perhaps, a larger reading. As many teachers as possible should be involved in planning the day.
During sessions, we recommend that each Dodge Poet begin with a general discussion of the life and work of the poet. Such a broad discussion typically leads him/her to talk about his/her own life and work and to read and comment upon both his/her own poems and poems by others, especially those poems that have personal significance and that may even have been life-changing. Q & A sessions with well-prepared student groups are always illuminating and often reveal student interests and resources not evident beforehand.
