Eavan Boland

Irish poet EAVAN BOLAND came of age in a land still tormented by “the troubles,” and under the influence of an ancient bardic tradition dominated by giant male figures like William Butler Yeats.  In her memoir, A Journey with Two Maps, she writes movingly of her struggle to forge an identity for herself as a woman poet in the shadow of that imposing tradition.  When she went looking for other models her search led her to contemporary women poets writing in America, where she now lives and teaches much of the year.  Boland’s books of poetry include New Collected Poems (2008), Domestic Violence (2007), Against Love Poetry (2001), The Lost Land (1998), An Origin Like Water: Collected Poems 1967-1987 (1996), In a Time of Violence (1994), Outside History: Selected Poems 1980-1990 (1990), The Journey and Other Poems (1986), Night Feed (1982), and In Her Own Image (1980).
