Submission Guidelines

Our search for poets is ongoing. One of the many ways we find Festival Poets is through open submissions. 

Until October 14th, 2017, we will be accepting materials from poets who are interested in reading at the 2018 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival.(The Festival will take place in October 2018, exact dates to be determined.) Submissions will be reviewed by an anonymous panel of three poets.

GUIDELINES

  • We will review submissions from poets who have 1) completed the online submission form and 2) submitted all supporting materials as outlined below. 
  • Your online submission must be received no later than 11:59 pm EST on October 14, 2017.
  • Your mailed materials must be postmarked no later than October 14, 2017
  • Only mail hard copies of materials you do not need returned to you.
  • To help cover the cost of our online registration service, please include a $5 handling fee.

You will need to upload the materials listed below.  We will accept hard copies of additional materials, like books and CDs/DVDs; however, you need to complete the online submission form for Dodge to review your submission.

 

Cover Letter

No longer than 1 page. 

Resume/C.V.

No more than 2 pages. 

Work Sample

Approximately 20 pages of poetry in a 12-point standard font (such as Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial) with approximately one-inch margins. 

And (if applicable) 

1-3 mailed books/chapbooks.  Indicate the titles you plan to mail in the online submission form. When mailing books/chapbooks, please be sure to include a document in the package with your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. 

Audio or Video Recording

1-3 recordings (audio and/or video) are preferable with your application.  We encourage you to submit links to recordings of live readings before an audience.  For additional instructions on audio/video recordings and how to submit them, please see our Submissions FAQ.


You will receive an email from us confirming receipt of materials within 2 weeks.  After this confirmation, we only contact poets we plan to invite to either the Festival or other Dodge Poetry programming. We will notify all invited poets by July 31, 2018. A great deal of time is invested in ensuring that every submission is carefully reviewed. As a result, there simply is no time to offer feedback. Please respect our process by not calling or writing requesting such feedback or asking for updates on your submission.
