Storytellers
All four days of the Festival begin with morning STORYTELLING, perhaps poetry’s closest relative.
Each Festival features nationally and internationally recognized storytellers performing stories, folk tales,
legends and myths from oral traditions around the world. Past Festivals have featured Abenaki storytellers Joseph Bruchac and Jessie Bruchac; Dovie Thomason (pictured), telling stories learned from her Kiowa Apache and Lakota relatives; Eshu Bumpus, telling stories from the African and African-American traditions; and Motoko, telling stories from her native Japan, and from China, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Either TELLING STORIES, which includes discussions of the art of telling stories, or STORYTELLING sessions are also featured in the late afternoon.
2008 storytellers are Steve Sanfield and Dovie Thomason.
