Festival Dates and Events
The Board of Trustees and the staff of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation are pleased to announce that the Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry event in North America, is being planned for Thursday October 11th through Sunday October 14th, 2012 in Newark, New Jersey. The fourteenth biennial Festival will again transform New Jersey’s largest and most vibrant city into a “poetry village” for four days.
As we move closer to the Festival, further information—including the poet line up and schedule of events—will be announced. In the meantime, we want you to know that 2012 Festival will feature the outstanding programming you’ve come to love:
• Poets on Poetry: Festival Poets read and discuss some of the poems and poets that have mattered to them.
• Conversations: Intimate groups of Festival Poets discuss enduring themes evoked by poetry.
• Festival Poet Readings feature a dynamic and diverse group of poets.
• Evening Main Stage Readings feature the most celebrated and accessible poets of today
Information about area hotels with special Festival rates is now available here. (link) Note that the hotels closest to the Festival village sold out in 2010. Plan your visit now. We are working closely with NJ Transit to offer travel discounts as well, so please consider using mass transit.
We are grateful to our partners in this endeavor: the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and the City of Newark. The cultural and arts community in Newark could not be more welcoming—we are thankful for the cooperation and support of the many organizations that will make the 2012 Festival a success: Aljira: A Center for Contemporary Art, Brick City Development Corporation, Greater Newark Area Conventions & Visitors Bureau, Newark Arts Council, New Jersey Historical Society, The Newark Museum, North Star Charter School Academy, First Baptist Peddie Memorial Church, Trinity St. Philip’s Cathedral, and many more.
